CMG 1st January 1919 “For services rendered in connection with the War.” (1 of 3 awarded to CASC) DSO 14 January 1916 “For distinguished services in the field.” MID 22 June 1915, 27 January 1916, & 28 December 1917. Simson was born in Halifax, NS, and was appointed 2nd lieutenant in the 63rd Halifax Regiment in 1901. Served with 4th CMR in S. Africa as a Lieutenant, but arrived at war’s end. In 1911, he was promoted to Major and Assistant Director of Supply and Transport. Promoted Lt. Colonel of 1st Divisional train on outbreak of war ; by 21 October 1914 appointed to command all units of Canadian Service Corps . Promoted Brevet Lt. Colonel on 1 July 1915, then attached to Canadian Corps as officer in charge of CASC personnel (France). He returned to England in November 1917 as Director of Supply and Transport at OMFC Headquarters, London. He retired in Canada in August, 1919, and later died in London, UK in 1925.
Sold with extensive records detailing Simson’s service, and his war diary and that of the 1st Divisional Train. A scarce C.M.G. & D.S.O. combination of awards to a Canadian officer. (5)
