GVF and rare, only (20) medals awarded,

controversially, the other ranks of Black units were not awarded medals.

D. Hulley served with the Matatiele Native Contingent from 7th August 1901 until 15th December 1901, having seen previous service as a Sergeant in the Umzikulu Reserve; with copied roll entry.

The Matatiele Native Contingent formed part of the East Griqualand Field Force.
