Charles Henry Corbet Pittman was born at Yeovil, Somerset, on 3 December 1892 and commenced his naval service as Boy Second Class in H.M.S. Impregnable on 6 April 1909. During WW1 he served aboard HMS Crescent initially and then other ships such as HMS Foxglove as well as various shore bases. His medals for service in the Great War were sent to H.M.S. Malaya and he was paid a war gratuity when serving in H.M.S. Theseus. He was awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal in January 1926, and was shore pensioned in December 1932.
