Engraved in running script to : Lieut. F.C.K. Macmullen, 12th Bl. Cav.

NEF

Frederick Charles Kendall Macmullen was born 9 Nov 1867 in Bengal to Frederick Wood Macmullen (Colonel of the 13th Bengal Lancers, lived 1843-93) and Mary Eleonora Macmullen nee Wood. He attended Haileybury school and joined the Cheshire Regiment as a 2nd Lieutenant serving in the Burma Campaign of 1887-89 (Medal & clasp). He transferred to the Indian Army, 12th Bengal Cavalry and rose through the ranks to Lt. Colonel. In November 1902 he married Athea Mary Forrest at Rawalpindi, Bengal. They had at least one son, Michael Norman Elton Macmullen born in Sept. 1903 (later a Major in 10th Hussars / Welsh Guards in 1945). Sadly, Frederick was killed on 19th June 1916 in Mesopotamia and lies in Amara War Cemetery in what is now Iraq. On his Probate entry he is described as Lt. Colonel, 27th Light Cavalry so must of been attached to some other unit when killed.
