George Pile was born at Reading, Berkshire and attested at Guildford in July 1867 in the 11th Foot, aged 17. He later transferred to the 89th Foot on 1st October 1871 into the Royal Irish Fusiliers. He served 10 Years in the East Indies as well as Cape of Good Hope and Sudan. Also awarded the Bronze Star.
