Memorial Cross stamped 'Sterling',

BWM & Victory Medal and Death Plaque named to: 19928 Pte. James Ellis 43 - Can Inf.

Born at King Edward, Aberdeenshire, a Locomotive Fireman by occupation, he attested on 10 April 1916 at Sioux Lookout, Ontario into the 188th Overseas Battalion. C.E.F. Later in 94th OS Battalion. The War Book of Turriff & 12 Miles Round : page 127. 

He was wounded in the left arm in October 1916 and hospitalized in Rouen. 

Whilst doing duty in the front line on 1st September, 1917 he was struck in the head by shrapnel and later died of his wounds on 5th September 1917.

Born King Edward, Aberdeen. Buried Longuenesse (St. Omer) Souvenir Cemetery.

With the Cardboard case , original mailing envelope and a 1914-1918 Tribute Medal 'Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Enginemen'. James was a Railway Steam-Engine Fireman from Sioux Lookout, Ontario. He is also commemorated on the King Edward War Memorial & Macduff, Scotland.
