Constable's beret badge of the pre-independence Central Provinces Armed Constabulary. The officers wore the Indian Police badge. They, the Central Reserve Police and the United Provinces Provincial Armed Constabulary were renowned for their suppression of the large and dangerous robber-bands (dacoits) who infested the ravines of the Chambal Valley region. Today the CPAC are called the Special Armed Constabulary of the Madhya Pradesh (Hindi: Central Provinces) State Police. Their 4th Battalion has always been all-Gurkha.
