Kenneth Gordon McEwen was born on 25th September 1883 in Welland, Ontario. He had applied for a Homestead at Calgary, Alberta on 24th January 1916. He joined the Canadian Mounted Rifles on 27th April 1916 in London, Ontario, giving his occupation as "Traveller". Having seen previous service with 6th Battery, Canadian Field Artillery.
