Robert Armstrong was a labourer from the village of Kinity (Kinnitty), King’s County / now known as Co. Offaly, Ireland when he enlisted. He served for a total of 21 years and 6 months, which included 5 years in India, 1 year in the West Indies and 7 ½ years in Canada, before his discharge to pension on 23rd December 1879 at the age of 42. He is confirmed on the medal roll of the 2nd Battalion The North Lancashire Regiment (late 81st Foot) being entitled to the medal and clasp. (P.N. - No Paperwork present.)
