Hugh Murray was born in Auchnagatt, Aberdeenshire on 18th September 1894, and having emigrated to Canada attested for the Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force at Cypress River, Manitoba. He served with the 43rd (Manitoba) Battalion, Canadian Infantry during the Great War on the Western Front, and died of wounds on 5th February 1917. He is buried in Aubigny Communal Cemetery Extension, France.
