Ernest John Ray was born in Braintree, Essex on 13th January 1878 and was a married Ironworker living in Toronto when he attested on 31st Aug. 1915. He stated that he had 7 years prior service with the Leicestershire Regiment. Wounded in the left hand on 9th Sept. 1916 he returned to the front after convalescing and was killed in action on 17th September 1916 in an attack west of Courcelette. He is commemorated on The Vimy Memorial.
