The 55th Battalion was raised in the Maritime Provinces of New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island with mobilization headquarters at Sussex New Brunswick effective July 1st 1915. The Battalion sailed for England October 30th 1915 where in May 1916 the battalion was absorbed into the 17th and 26th Reserve Battalions and used to reinforce units already serving on the Western Front. Being fully depleted of all ranks the Battalion was disbanded effective 1st June 1917 under General Order 63 of 1917.
