Gazetted June 1919 for Gallantry during one of the final major actions for the Battalion, The capture of Hill 41 to the north of the Menin road in late September early October 1918.

James Patrick McDonald was born in Cambuslang, Glasgow 1898, served with The 1st Battalion, Royal Irish Fusiliers during WW1 and discharged in 1919.
Emigrated to Calgary, Alberta, Canada in 1926 and employed as a clerk with the Trans-Canada Pipe Line Limited. During WW2 he served with the 13th Detachment, Canadian Military Staff Clerks.
 
In 1961 he made contact with the Regiment to enquire if any "Old Faughs" remembered him and his address was supplied, contact was made again in 1962 when he supplied photographs of himself from his time serving with the Regiment in WW1, James died in 1964 at Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
