Porter received the DCM in the London Gazette of 3 June 1915:
“For gallant conduct and resource at Neuve Chapelle on 10th March 1915, when, under heavy fire, he succeeded in taking a portion of his platoon well on rear of the German trenches in order to bring more effective fire on the enemy”.
Sjt. Porter was killed in action on 7 January 1916 in the Persian Gulf. He is commemorated on the Basra Memorial. Porter’s Medal Index Card shows that he also received a 1914 Star (location unknown).
