Court martialled three times, 24 times in Defaulter's book, conduct stated as "Good". George Tobin Came from Bishopsgate, London, enlisted from the 4th S. Middlesex Militia into the 1st Bn Rifle Brigade on 19th January 1855 aged 18 giving his trade a sa Tailor. Deserted 5th July 1857 until 28th August 1857. Various ups and downs in ranks. Papers state that he was awarded an Indian Mutiny Medal but think this is a mistake for the India General Service Medal as he is not on the Mutiny Medal roll. He served 20 years 364 days, 13 3/4 of that time in the East Indies. and no other theatres, therefore likely his only award.
