Henry Carter received his Medal from the Officer Commanding at Umballa in 1881.

Awarded to Driver Henry Carter, ‘A’ Battery, ‘B’ Brigade, Royal Horse Artillery was present during the Second Afghanistan War, and was present in action at Ahmed Khel on 19th April 1880, when 15,000 Afghan tribesmen were repulsed with volley fire.
