Isaac Robson was born in Whitehaven, Cumberland, and later attested with the Border Regiment at Carlisle on 21 January 1890. The following year, he was stationed in the East Indies where he arrived on 11 November 1891. From there, Robson was posted to Waziristan on 8 October 1894, returning to the East Indies a few months later on 18 March 1895.

Robson returned to England from the East Indies two years later on 20 November 1897. He was not to be at home long, however, as he found himself again posted overseas to Malta. Robson served in Malta from 6 May 1898 until his posting to South Africa on 27 September 1899. There, he saw much action over the next few years; finally returning to England on 24 September 1902 and was discharged the very next day.

Robson is further entitled to a Queen's South Africa 1899-1902 with clasps for Tugela Heights, Relief of Ladysmith, Cape Colony, Orange Free State, and Transvaal. He is also entitled to a King's South Africa 1901-02 medal with the clasps South Africa 1901 and South Africa 1902; awaiting copied service record.
