Private John Cockburn served in the Second Afghan War with the 2nd Battalion 8th (King's Liverpool) Regiment, with confirmed entitlement as above. His name also appears on the I.G.S. 1854-95 Medal Roll as a Pioneer Sergeant serving with the 2nd/8th Foot during the ‘Burma 1885-7’ campaign, but this medal seems to have been returned unclaimed.
