Egypt Medal dated reverse with "The Nile 1884-85" Clasp
to ''1931 Pte. C. Verion. 1/R. Suss: R. , Khedive's Star 1882 (1931 C.V. THE 1ST. BN. R.S. named in corners).
VF Condition or better with some pitting from the star.
Charles Verrion (note spelling) is confirmed on the roll, preliminary research shows that he was born in Brighton, Sussex in 1861 and enlisted at Chichester on 14th December 1880. He served 5 years and 162 days in The Royal Sussex Regiment, enlisting at age 20, occupation Baker. His character was described as "Exemplary".
The 1911 Census shows him as a Police Sergeant at Lewes, Sussex. He appears in a couple of newspaper accounts giving evidence in court etc.
He died in January 1912 at Uckfield, Sussex. With e-copies of service record, medal rolls and 1911 census on request by the buyer.
