King's South Africa Medal to South African Constabulary (attached to 12th Lancers at Diamond Hill)

Bearing the two clasps 'South Africa 1901', 'South Africa 1902'.
Oriel Deane Kinnersley was born 1870 at Harfield Parish, Bristol, Gloucestershire and attested with the 16th Lancers on 8th November 1888, service number 2960. He was attached to the 12th Lancers and would of most likely been involved in their famous action at Diamond Hill where they charged the enemy in support of 'Q' Battery, Royal Horse Artillery. He died 14 Aug 1926 at Overpool, Cheshire.

At Diamond Hill, 11th and 12th June, a charge of the Household Cavalry and 12th Lancers saved 'Q' Battery, but the regiment and the army had to deplore the loss of the Earl of Airlie, "who fell at the head of his regiment". Lieutenant Wright was also killed, and the regiment had about a dozen other casualties.
