Trumpeter John Petty was born in Bradford, enlisted circa 1906 and served in France with the 12th (The Prince of Wales’s Royal) Lancers from 15 August 1914. Captured by the Germans on 30 October 1914, his name appears on the roll of 54 men of the 12th Lancers taken prisoner of war in the opening year of the Great War.
