Herny Swetenham Pike joined the Indian posts and telegraph dept on 1 October 1893 as an assistant superintendent, and served with Hohmand field force during Punjab frontier 1897-98. For his service in the campaign he was mentioned in Brigadier general R E Elles dispatch of 22 January 1898. ‘Mr. H S Pike ass. Super. of telegraphs, ably assisted by subordinates, Mr. JC Murphy, laid telegraph line rapidly and well, and the telegraph work was most satisfactory; all concerned working very willingly. (London Gazette 18 March 1898).
Pike was promoted superintendent in April 1908 and retires in January 1916.
