William Paddon was from Wrexham a member of the 1st V.B. Royal Welsh Fusiliers and an Engineman by occupation. He served in the Sharpshooters in South Africa and until discharged medically unfit on 14th Dec. 1901, also ent. SA 1901 Clasp. He was an invalid for 3 years after discharge and this is when he seriously studied Engineering,
