Walter Lewis Dagg was born at Hatfield, Hertfordshire in 1859 and was a Solicitor in civilian occupation. He served with the 28th (Bedfordshire) Company, 4th Battalion Imperial Yeomanry in South Africa during the Boer War. Roll states Civil employment in Government Law Courts. Discharged, 30/09/01.
In WW1 He was a Farrier Sergeant Major in the Army Service Corps in the Remount Department from 15th Dec. 1914 to 1919 and claimed a disability as the result of service. He died in 1931 at Edmonton, Middlesex and was survived by his wife.
This unit, the official title of which was 28th (Bedfordshire) Company, 4th Battalion, Imperial Yeomanry, was raised late in 1899 by Captain (later Lieutenant Colonel) Lord Alwynne Frederick Compton (1855-1911). On 7 February 1900, after a month's training, Compton's Horse embarked for South Africa, arriving at Cape Town on 5 March 1900. Making its way by stages to join Roberts at Bloemfontein, it participated in the operations which culminated in the occupation of Johannesburg. While at Johannesburg, the 28th Company was attached to the military police force which had been raised there from among the occupying troops, and given responsibility for controlling the country north of the town.
