A hallmarked sterling silver pattern to the 63rd Regiment (Halifax Rifles) Birmingham hallmark for year 1910 so likely made for an officer attending the 1911 Coronation of King George V.
Complete with screw posts & both retaining nuts.
The Halifax Rifles long predate their becoming a component of the Canadian Militia having been one of the senior battalions of the pre Confederation Nova Scotia Militia. Officially designated as the Halifax Volunteer Battalion in 1860 the regiment became the 63rd Halifax Battalion of Rifles in 1869 and the 63rd Regiment, Halifax Rifles May 8th 1900. In WWI The regiment contributed 26 volunteers to the 14th Battalion CEF on its formation in August 1914 and later raised the 40th Battalion CEF. In the 1920 post WWI reorganization of the Canadian Militia the regiment became the Halifax Rifles.
